How to request P-PRO
What is P-PRO?
P-PRO is a High Performing Computing Environment for running Earth Observation algorithms on large datasets. Combining cloud computing and distributed systems technologies, the local access to EO data and the ease of custom application integration in the platform, P-PRO optimises the computing power required to execute processing operations, enabling you to receive your processing results in a considerable reduced time.
Key Features
SELECT THE DESIRED SARvatore PROCESSOR
P-PRO comes with SARvatore services already integrated in the environment and ready to perform processing campaigns. You just need to indicate the desired processor on your service request form. To consult the full list of SARvatore services available, please click here.
PROCESS DATA FASTER
PRO is based on the P-PRO Parallelizer Engine which breaks up the application input data and operations into smaller tasks, and distributes them over a set of computing nodes where they will be executed in parallel, enabling you to receive processing results in a significant reduced time.
OPTIMIZE THE USE OF RESOURCES
P-PRO only uses the necessary resources when it needs them. The P-PRO Cloud Scaling Engine automatically adapts computing resources based on the workload of the cluster and makes sure the parallelization effort is always matched with an adequate amount of computing power.
DELEGATE THE PROCESSING CAMPAIGNS
Based on your requirements, we’ll run the processing for you and deliver the results once ready. You will be enabled to validate results at any time, before, during and after processing completion, to make sure they comply with what you expected.
Altimetry Services
P-PRO comes with the following Altimetry services integrated and ready for use.
In case you are unsure on which one is the right one for your needs, you can contact our Technical Support Team at support@earthconsole.eu and cc altimetry.info@esa.int and we will be glad to support you.
ALES+ SAR RETRACKER – TUM
ALES+ SAR Retracker – TUM is a subwaveform retracker for open ocean and coastal zone SAR altimetry data. It adopts a simplified version of the Brown-Hayne functional form (which is the functional form for pulse-limited altimetry) as an empirical retracker to track the leading edge of the waveform. A specific sea state bias correction is also computed and shall be used when correcting the estimated range to compute the sea surface height.
FULLY-FOCUSED SAR FOR CRYOSAT-2
FF-SAR (Fully Focused SAR) for CryoSat-2 is a web service that provides the capability to process on line and on demand CryoSat-2 SAR data, from FBR data products to Level1b FF-SAR products.
SARINvatore for CryoSat-2
SARINvatore (SARIN Versatile Altimetric TOolkit for Research and Exploitation) for CryoSat-2 is a Software Processor Prototype developed by ESA/ESRIN to experiment with SARin processing from L1A (FBR) to L2 using the SAMOSA retracking model. It can be used over open ocean or coastal zones, as well as over more difficult targets such as rivers, lakes, and sea-ice. This toolkit is made available to the user community as EarthConsole® P-PRO Service. The toolkit takes in input Cryosat-2 SARin FBR data products and produces in output geophysical L2 products in standard NetCDF format. This output can be manipulated and visualized with BRAT (the Broadview Altimetry Radar Toolbox).
SARvatore for CryoSat-2
SARvatore (SAR Versatile Altimetric TOolkit for Research and Exploitation) for CryoSat-2 is a Software Processor Prototype developed by ESA/ESRIN to experiment with SAR processing from L1A (FBR) to L2 using the SAMOSA retracking model. It can be used over open ocean or coastal zones, as well as over more difficult targets such as rivers, lakes, and sea-ice. This toolkit is made available to the user community as an EarthConsole® P-PRO Service. The toolkit takes in input Cryosat-2 SAR FBR data products and produces in output geophysical L2 products in standard NetCDF format. This output can be manipulated and visualized with BRAT (the Broadview Altimetry Radar Toolbox).
SARvatore for Sentinel-3
SARvatore (SAR Versatile Altimetric TOolkit for Research and Exploitation) for Sentinel-3 is a Prototype Software Processor developed by ESA/ESRIN to experiment with Sentinel-3 SAR Altimetry processing exploiting the SAMOSA retracking model and the Delay-Doppler principle. It can be used over open ocean or coastal zone, as well as over more difficult targets such as rivers, lakes, and sea-ice. This toolkit, similar to the one developed for CryoSat-2, is made available to the user community as an EarthConsole® P-PRO Service. The toolkit takes in input L1A Sentinel-3 SAR Altimetry data products and produces in output L2 data products in standard NetCDF format. The content of these output files can be manipulated, displayed and further post-processed with BRAT (the Broadview Altimetry Radar Toolbox).
TUDaBO SAR-RDSAR – U.Bonn
TUDaBO SAR-RDSAR – U.Bonn is a processor prototype developed by C. Buchhaupt and L. Fenoglio-Marc at TU Darmstadt and U Bonn to experiment with SAR mode data from L1A (FBR) to L2. Reduced SAR, unfocused SAR, and LRMC data can be generated for both CryoSat-2 and Sentinel-3A. For each mode, dedicated signal processing options and retrackers are available, which allow the user to experiment with different configurations. All L1B/L2 products for reduced SAR, unfocused SAR, and LRMC have the same geolocations and time tags, allowing a direct comparison without interpolation.
SAMPY for CryoSat-2
The P-PRO SAMPY processor service for CryoSat-2 is a web service that provides the capability to process on-line and on demand CryoSat-2 SAR data, from GOP Level-1B SAR data products to enhanced GOP Level-2 SAR products including SAMOSA+ retracker estimates & quality flags (pu, ssh_unc, swh, oceanlike_flag, misfit). It has been developed within the ESA Cryo-TEMPO project and enhanced by the ESA-ESRIN Altimetry Team to append the output of the SAMOSA+ retracker to official CryoSat-2 Level-2 GOP products.

How to request a P-PRO processing campaign
Step 1 – Fill in the P-PRO service request form on the on the EarthConsole® Webapp
Fill-in the P-PRO service request form. In the form you will be requested to specify whether you want to request ESA sponsorship or not. Your selection will imply that you are choosing one of the following options.
Step 2
Option 1 “Sponsorship Request via ESA NoR”
If you have a research, development or pre-commercial project, you may be eligible to submit a sponsoring request via the ESA NoR portal. If the sponsorship request will be approved, this would cover partially or totally the cost of the desired EarthConsole® service. To guide you through the sponsoring submission procedure, we have prepared this Step-by-Step Manual.
If you are not eligible to apply for a sponsorship via the NoR portal or in case of rejection, option n° 2 is always available.
Option 2 “Unsponsored Service Activation”
Following the request of the desired service via the EarthConsole® Webapp, we will send you a quotation of the service for your approval together with the instructions to proceed with the payment.
15% discount is applicable to research, development, pre-commercial and educational projects. Special discounts can be applied in the case of requests for subscription plans. Ad-hoc quotations are available on-demand.
Step 3
For Option 1, in case of acceptance of your NoR Sponsorship request, we will contact you with further details about how to start using EarthConsole® services.
For Option 2, following the receipt of the payment, we will activate the P-PRO service.
