How to request a G-BOX
What is G-BOX?
G-BOX is a customisable cloud-based virtual machine (VM) for algorithm development, testing and post processing analysis, providing fast access to the dataset offered by the Copernicus Data and Information Access Services – DIAS. With high-speed network connections, proper resource flexibility, powerful hardware resources from the cloud and many EO datasets available on-line, G-BOX enables you to test and run your algorithms: the G-BOX VM is already equipped with ESA BRAT toolbox, Panoply and Python to allow you to analyse and post process output data produced by the P-PRO processing services.

GET STARTED STRAIGHT AWAY
The G-BOX is ready-to-use as it comes with the following pre-installed software supporting altimetry data exploitation: BRAT Toolbox and Panoply.
Additional software can be installed on request.
UPGRADE RESOURCES WHEN YOU NEED IT
G-BOX offers a flexible amount of CPU, RAM and storage tailored to your requirements. You can request more CPUs, RAM and storage if you need it, and we will upgrade it compatibly with the cloud infrastructure constraints.
ACCESS YOUR G-BOX FROM ANYWHERE
You can access your G-BOX via your own devices (PC, laptop, tablet) from anywhere. You can remotely access your VM via your own PC using SSH for command line access, x2go for remote desktop and JupyterLab for http web access.
COLLABORATE WITH YOUR WHOLE TEAM
G-BOX makes multiple users’ access to the same virtual machine possible. You will be enabled to code and run tests with your team members so that everyone stays on the same page.
EXPLOIT MASS CONFIGURATION
You can request to configure tens of VMs with the same settings. This makes G-BOX a suitable environment for supporting Altimetry-related trainings as students will have access to different virtual machines with the same settings through their own devices.

How to request a G-BOX
Step 1 – Fill in the G-BOX request form on the EarthConsole® Webapp
Fill-in the G-BOX service request form. In the form you will be requested to specify whether you want to request ESA sponsorship or not. Your selection will imply that you are choosing one of the following options.
Step 2
Option 1 “Sponsorship Request via ESA NoR”
If you have a research, development or pre-commercial project, you may be eligible to submit a sponsoring request via the ESA NoR portal. If the sponsorship request will be approved, this would cover partially or totally the cost of the desired EarthConsole® service. To guide you through the sponsoring submission procedure, we have prepared this Step-by-Step Manual.
If you are not eligible to apply for a sponsorship via the NoR portal or in case of rejection, option n° 2 is always available.
Option 2 “Unsponsored Service Activation”
Following the request of the desired service via the EarthConsole® Webapp, we will send you a quotation of the service for your approval together with the instructions to proceed with the payment.
15% discount is applicable to research, development, pre-commercial and educational projects. Special discounts can be applied in the case of requests for subscription plans. Ad-hoc quotations are available on-demand.
Step 3
For Option 1, in case of acceptance of your NoR Sponsorship request, we will contact you with further details about how to start using EarthConsole® services.
For Option 2, following the receipt of the payment, we will activate the selected G-BOX.
