The Heritage Missions Virtual Lab
The Heritage Missions Virtual Lab is an initiative funded by ESA and operated on the EarthConsole® platform to foster the valorization of Heritage Missions data. The Heritage Missions consist of 45 non-operational earth observation missions, including cornerstone ESA missions such as the European Remote Sensing satellites, ERS-1 and ERS-2, or ENVISAT.
These missions had onboard different kinds of optical, radar and atmospheric instruments which have acquired data for more than 40 years.
When aligned and combined with data from new satellites, Heritage Missions data provides the capability to look back in time and build long time data series on a variegated range of applications regarding climate change, sea levels, surface temperatures, melting ice, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, atmospheric composition, deforestation, and urban mapping.
This is important to have a better understanding of Earth dynamics and their evolutions to shape a sustainable future.
The EarthConsole® Heritage Missions Virtual Lab is a virtual space aimed to address the needs of researchers working with Heritage Missions data. The Virtual Lab makes available services (virtual machines and software, processors, tools and resources) customized for the exploitation of Heritage Missions data and knowledge all in one place.
